Welcome to Three Questions with Van Heerling. This is where you get to meet authors, actors, painters and anyone else that is bent toward the arts, but on a more personal level.
We have a special duo edition of Three Questions. Today we are going to have a chat with Lynn Hallbrooks and David McKoy co-authors of Call Sign: Wrecking Crew.

VH:
If you could change one thing about our world, what would it be and why?

David McKoy: In my humble opinion, only God can change the world.  It is my sincere hope that I can change people’s hearts by the stories I write.  Our first book was an outpouring from both my heart and my brain...once I started to write - it flowed through me onto the paper.  This shows just how strongly that I believe our country is doomed when certain entities try to divide instead of unite it.

Lynn Hallbrooks: If I was given the opportunity to change one thing about our world, it would be Possessiveness. If people didn’t see the need to be so possessive then maybe many of the Wars that have been fought, wouldn’t have been necessary.  Sharing and living in harmony is possible. I’m not advocating communal living but a peaceful co-existence.  On the other hand, if someone swipes my chocolate...then “It is On like Donkey Kong!”

VH: Let the chocolate wars begin.

If you knew the exact date of your death down to the minute, what would you change about your life starting tomorrow?

David McKoy: The main thing that I would change is in the amount of time I’d spend with my family.  My twelve year old daughter means the world to me.  Yes, I know all fathers feel that way but you see...a short time after receiving her two year old check-up with immunizations, she developed a form of Autism.  To some she may seem a little dull-witted but to me I see a brilliant young woman.  She has faced many challenges and succeeded in overcoming many of them with the help of her mother and me.  So if I can’t be there for all the future challenges, then I hope that the memories that I’ve continued to build will last her a lifetime.

Lynn Hallbrooks: Van, the question I have for you on this one is...supposing the exact date and time of my death is before tomorrow?  :) Seriously though, I’m not afraid of dying but of the things that I may have left unfinished. So hopefully knowing the exact date and time of my demise would give me the added push to complete my projects.  More to the point, I would re-prioritize my projects then not take on any new ones that cannot possibly be completed before I have no more time to spend on them.

VH: For what are you grateful?

David McKoy: I am grateful for so many things but mostly I’m grateful for my faith, family, friends and freedom.  I’m thankful that God has made everything possible.  He gave me a wife and daughter that I adore beyond words.  Not only that close friends, including Lynn, who encourage and challenge me to be better. I’m grateful to live in a country that is built upon the principal of freedom...freedom of religion and the freedom of speech.  Without either of these, I might not have been given the opportunity to complete a major project from start to finish. That project was our first book.

Lynn Hallbrooks: Van, I’m grateful for the support that I’ve received from my family and friends through all my ventures.  I’m grateful that my faith has carried me farther than I ever dreamed possible.  Leaving a job where I was totally burned out was a wise decision. It’s the jumping head first into a writing career that may not have been the smartest idea that I’ve ever had but it has been rewarding in so many ways. I’ve met so many wonderful people that I would never have met before.  You are among them, Van.  Thank you so much for allowing us this opportunity.

VH: You're welcome Lynn. Great to meet the both of you.

Lynn Hallbrooks:  We’d also like to let you and your readers know that we are currently working on book two and three in the series. We have discovered, like so many before us, that sequels present a big challenge.  Thus, we have re-doubled our efforts to meet and hopefully exceed our reader’s expectations.  It is our fondest desire to make each book better than the previous.

VH: I wish you both great success. I am just an email away. Let me know how I can help.

This was an absolute pleasure to read and, finally, I got to hear from David, in his own words. I'm so used to corresponding solely with Lynn in things pertaining to our books so this interview was an extra special treat. IT's wonderful to get to know all the writers behind a title.
